Kara DeMelfi
Talent Acquisition Manager
Hi! My name is Kara DeMelfi; I was born in Iowa but have spent most of my life living in sunny southern California. I attended Iowa State University, where I received a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. My husband and I have a blended family consisting of 6 children, one son-in-law, three dogs, two cats, and a variety of spiders and snakes. We are soon to be empty nesters and (thankfully) only two dogs will be living with us! In my free time, I enjoy cooking, working out on my Peloton, wine tasting, and sailing (not necessarily in that order).
Interview with Kara DeMelfi:
Q:How did you become a recruiter?
A:Having spent about ten years in residential real estate and coming off the lockdown caused by the pandemic, I was looking for something that offered more stability. When the opportunity came up to work at NuHire, it seemed like a perfect fit and a natural transition. Both careers, at their simplest, are careers in matchmaking!
Q:Tips for a fresh grad’s first job hunt?
A:Take an objective look at your social media-all of it! The hiring manager will almost certainly be checking it too. Make sure that any sites you use positively reflect who you are and that your activity aligns with the values of the company you are interviewing with. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date and accurately showcases any experiences that could be transferable into a professional setting.
Q:Favorite interview question to ask a candidate?
A:I like asking what career accomplishment the candidate is most proud of. It gives the candidate an opportunity to brag a bit, and I like to see an individual who takes pride in a job well done.
